Laverne (Jenkins) Harrison passed away Tuesday, March 19, 2019 in Rotan. Funeral services will be held at 2pm, Saturday, March 23, 2019 at the First Baptist Church of Rotan. Burial will follow in Belvieu Cemetery. Visitation is set for Friday, March 22, 2019, at the Frist Baptist Church of Rotan, from 6pm until 7pm.
Laverne was born, to Doug and Lula Jenkins, June 30, 1929, in the community of Flattop; northeast of Hamlin. She attended Flattop school until high school, where she graduated from Hamlin in 1947.
Laverne married Tyrus Harrison February 6, 1948 in Fisher County. They married and made their home in Rotan for 70 years. They moved east of town on a small farm where she loved gardening and tending to her chickens. Laverne was an excellent seamstress and made her girls a new wardrobe to start school every year. She continued her love of sewing by piecing quilts and hand quilting all her children, grandchildren and even her great-grandchildren a quilt.
Laverne was a strong caring mother who taught strong Christian values and lived by them. She loved her church and started attending Calvary Baptist with Tye when they first married. Laverne taught Sunday school and VBS. Later, she joined First Baptist where she continued to be a faithful servant. Laverne loved her church and Sunday school class that became her extended family.
Laverne was preceded in death by her husband, Tyrus Harrison; her parents; one daughter, Brenda Sheehan; one brother, James Jenkins; and four sisters, Dorothy Fudge, Christine Stremmel, Louise Ely and Rozelle Fudge.
Laverne is survived by her children Deborah (Rick) Campbell of Stamford and Brian (Teresa) Harrison of Rotan; grandchildren, Brian (Danette) Sheehan of Wichita Falls, Brandon (Kristi) Sheehan of Lumberton, Jeffery Campbell of Volcano, CA, Lisa (Kyle) Morrison of Ballinger, Mikeal (Stormie) Harrison of Rotan, and Jessica (James) Flores of Rotan; twelve great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; two brothers, Buddy Jenkins and Donnie Jenkins; and one sister, Nancy Mayo.
