Alfred Simmons

ALFRED EUGENE SIMMONS, 96, of Rotan, passed away Friday, February 19, 2016, at an Abilene Hospital. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, February 22, 2016, at the First Baptist Church of Rotan, directed by Weathersbee-Ray Funeral Home.
Born August 12, 1919,in Bridgeport, Oklahoma, Alfred was raised by his father, Gus Riley Simmons and his mother, who he affectionately called "Grandma Siney." He was a veteran of the United States Army and the United States Air Force, serving in World War II. Alfred married Rosa Castillo on April 2, 1983, at the Rotan Church of Christ. He was a "Jack-of-all-trades-and-master-of-none," working several jobs in his professional career. Alfred especially enjoyed working as a junker, gathering old metal for salvaging. In his spare time, he enjoyed reading, and watching football and baseball. His main enjoyment came from watching his children and grandchildren in all their endeavors.
He is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Gus "Tex" Simmons, and Everett Simmons; and his sisters, Ruby Simmons and Claudia Simmons.
Alfred is survived by his wife of thirty-three years, Rosa Simmons; three sons, Steve Witt and wife, Yvette, of Canada, Michael Simmons and wife, Sandra, of Germany, and Cristo Simmons of Rotan; three daughters, Peggy Campbell and husband, John, of Sweetwater, Emily Alls and husband, Chad, of Rotan, and Holly Lee and husband, Adam Skees, of Indiana; one brother, Dick Simmons; six grandchildren, Casey Campbell, Jason Campbell, Brianna Desmond (Clint), Bryson Alls (Seancy Lee), Kaitlyn Witt, and Zachary Skees; one great-granddaughter, Kynzlee Alls; one great-grandson, Ben Desmond, and eight nieces, three nephews, and beloved friends.
