Anna Mae Calhoun Hughes Fleming,
age 93, passed away Sunday evening, March 8, 2015, in Austin Texas. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 12, 2015, at the First Baptist Church of Rotan, with burial following at the Rotan Cemetery, directed by Weathersbee-Ray Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 6:00-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 11, 2015, at Weathersbee-Ray Funeral Home.
With the easiest birthday to remember, Anna Mae was born February 22, 1922, at home in Plasterco, Texas. Plasterco was a company town in Fisher county and her father was the company plant manager. Anna Mae was the daughter of W.R. ½Bill½ Calhoun and wife Letress. Anna Mae graduated from Hamlin High School and attended Texas Woman½s University and North Texas State. She married Bud Hughes in 1942 and they made Rotan their home. They had a son Mark Randal Hughes, who now lives in Austin, Texas. Anna Mae and her husband Bud owned the Rotan Furniture Store for several years. Anna Mae also worked for the State of Texas as the county health and human services worker. During those years she worked to provide a variety of services to families in Fisher County. Upon retirement, she learned to play golf, served on the Rotan Housing Authority Board of Directors and volunteered as an Election Judge. During her working years, and after the death of her husband, she later married Yoke Fleming and they enjoyed many years again serving the people of her community. Well into her 80½s, Anna Mae was volunteering her time and donating to many local causes.
In 2010, her son Mark, known to many as Randy, convinced this mother that she should move in with him and his family in Austin. While hard to leave Rotan, she enjoyed her life in Austin where everyday she saw her grandson Josh, his wife Meredith, and her daughter-in-law Regina. She witnessed the birth of her first great-grandson Conner, now three, and her second great-grandson Wilson, now seven months. She taught Conner nursery rhymes and played with him daily. Over the last few months, her health declined rapidly and she passed with her family at her side. We celebrate her life with all her many friends.
