Annie Weems (Grannie Annie) of Rotan passed away Monday, December 12, 2022. Services will be 10:00 am Friday, December 16, 2022 at the First Baptist Church of Rotan, with burial to follow in the Texas Veterans Cemetery in Abilene under the direction of Weathersbee-Ray Funeral Home. There will be visitation prior to the service at the First Baptist Church beginning at 9:00 am.
Annie Mae Parker Morrow Weems was born May 26, 1933 in Turkey, Texas to Edwin and Mae McFarland Parker. She was adopted by Ruple and Vera Morrow. She was reunited with her brothers and sisters at the age of sixteen. Annie married Virgil R. Weems September 14, 1951 at her family home. They had four children, Ruple Weems, Catherine Weatherman, Annette Leach and Carolyn Hargrove.
Annie dedicated her life to working for the betterment of people. She taught Sunday School and GA’s. She ran the GA camp in Lueders for many years. Annie worked as a substitute teacher at Hobbs and was a house parent at Abilene Girls Home for eleven and a half years. She helped start the local Senior Citizen Program in Fisher County. Annie was the Rotan weather reporter for forty years and she was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ruple and Vera Adams Morrow; four brothers, Wilber Parker, Edwin Parker, Fay Parker, and Joe Campbell; four sisters, Veda McCain, Sylvia (Sib) Parker, Nelvie (Neb) Wood, and Truda Gray; and one daughter-in-law, Rhonda Weems.
Annie is survived by her husband of seventy-one years, Virgil R. Weems; one son; Ruple Weems; three daughters, Catherine Weatherman (Lawrence), Annette Leach (Earl), and Carolyn Hargrove (Jim); eleven grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; and four great great grandchildren; sister, Dorothy (Daphe) Wright; and lifetime best friends, Sue Cleveland and Glynetta Callan.
The family would like to thank Interim Hospice for all their care.
