BETTY JEAN BOX MEADOR
February 15, 1933 - September 8, 2016
Betty Jean Box Meador, 83, passed away on Thursday, September 8, 2016. She was born in Littlefield, Texas. She graduated from Jacksboro High School in Jacksboro, Texas, and received her Bachelor's degree in Education, then called a Teaching Certificate, from North Texas State University in Denton, Texas. She was a member of the Chi Omega Sorority there, and later served as President on the Panhellenic Council in San Antonio, Texas, remaining active with Alumni Associations and Reunions. Betty continued her parents' legacy and taught elementary school throughout much of her life in Virginia, Hawaii, and Kingsville, Garland, and Pecos, Texas. An interlude from teaching, she was a blessing to her family and raised four children in Dallas and San Antonio. She co-owned an art gallery in San Antonio, Texas, for over ten years, and made many lifetime friends through her work and faithful service to Coker United Methodist Church, and later First Baptist Church of Midland, Texas, where she and her husband worshipped together. She contributed greatly to the books authored by her husband and enjoyed travelling with him to showcase those books around the States of Texas and New Mexico. She enjoyed art, music, family history, traveling, Sunday School, and singing in her church choirs. She laughed a lot and enjoyed her children and grandchildren.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Edna Box and her sister Billy Burford.
Betty is survived by her husband Bill; daughter Karen and husband Donald Brice of Edmond, Oklahoma; son Charles Knight Jr and wife Machelle of Dripping Springs, Texas; daughter Suzanne and husband Alan Kupfernagel of New Braunfels, Texas; and, son Michael Knight of Escondido, California; grandchildren Jonathan Brice and wife Amy; Kenton Brice and wife Ashley; David Brice; Kristin Knight-Constantine and husband Fadi; Clayton Knight and wife Iveth; Carleigh Knight-Fryrear and husband Stephen; Charles Knight III; David Kupfernagel and wife Bethany; Steven Kupfernagel; and Miranda Knight; step-children Karla Poe, Allan Meador and wife Emily, and Edwin "Sandy" Meador; step-grandchildren Paul Poe and wife Julie; Shannon and husband Doug Hamm; Lauren and husband Reggie Shepherd; Holly and husband Luke Harper; Will Meador; Jake Meador and wife Dallas; and Meri Meador; and six great grandchildren and six step-great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
Following a private service, Betty will be interred in Jayton, Texas, within view of the Double Mountains which provided inspiration to Betty and Bill through their more than 30 years together and found their way into many of the stories told in Bill's books.
