Bobby Lee Wright, age 92, was born on August 17, 1933, in Mount Pleasant, Texas, to the late Buster Sherman Wright and Mavis Lorene Isbell Wright. He entered into eternity on August 1, 2026, in Abilene, Texas, surrounded by loved ones - as he so often was.

Bobby moved to Hobbs, Texas, at age 14. After graduating from Hobbs High School, he enlisted in the United States Army shortly before the Korean War began. His first station was in Fort Chaffee, Arkansas, with Elvis Presley. He became a mechanic in the artillery division and was stationed in Germany and Japan. While overseas Bobby still found time for adventure like jumping from tanks into snow drifts and climbing Mt. Fuji. He was active in the army from 1950-1965 and was honored to serve his country.

Upon leaving the army, Bobby moved back home to Hobbs and joined his dad in farming and ranching. In September 1968, he met the love of his life, Martha, while eating dinner at a cafe. After two weeks of courting, they were married. With his sons, Bobby, Jr. and Charles Eugene, and Martha’s children, Ellen Carol and John Wayne, they became a family and Georgie Lea joined them a year later.

After years of working the land and cattle, the couple purchased the Hobbs Grocery Store. Martha ran the store and Bobby went to the oilfield in Snyder, operating heavy machinery. He retired in the early 1990s but was always willing to work a backhoe or his John Deere to help anyone out. Everyone was confident in Bobby's ability to fix absolutely anything. He loved to tinker in his barn or around the yard for hours. For many years he took great pride in a beautiful koi pond he built in front of their home.

Bobby was strong and mechanically minded, and he taught all the men in his family to help around the house in every way and could be found after every meal washing dishes by hand at the kitchen sink. His huge hands, callused from years of labor, were also the most gentle hands. He could calm any baby or animal, such as his childhood horse that only he and one other man could tame. Bobby loved Martha and their children with a strong, steady love, and led by example that hard work and spending time with those who you love are the most important things in life. He made sure all the girls in his life knew they were special to him, always referring to them as, "my girl." He loved to tell stories, and know all of the goings-on of his little community.

Bobby and Martha enjoyed their retirement to the fullest: fishing, camping, and traveling to see their children and grandchildren who lovingly named them “Paw-Paw” and “Maw-Maw.” In the 1990s they became Lake Managers at Lake Champion in Colorado City. Their family has many fond memories of the home on Lake Champion like helping him sell minnows from the store and late night dominoes. Bobby and Martha were married for 57 years, rarely spending time apart, until her death last year. Upon her passing, you would often find Bobby sitting on his front porch watching the birds in his front yard - when he wasn’t mowing the lawn at 92 years old! His family will remember him every time we watch “Gunsmoke” or “Quigley Down Under,” cast a line, snap on a pair of overalls, or see the flag flying that he fought valiantly for.

Bobby was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Mae New Wright; his parents, Buster Sherman Wright and Mavis Lorene Isbell Wright; his sister Mary Ann Fisk; his brother Charles Richard Wright; and two great-granddaughters, Maddison Jones and Jazy Daniel.

He is survived by his children Bobby Lee Wright, Jr., Charles (Kathy) Wright, Ellen (Doug) Mosley, Wayne (Tonya) Jones, Georgie (Dwayne) McGough; his grandchildren, Jeriami (Genesis) St. Clair, JoEllen (Nick) Gonzales, Josh (Amanda) Jones, Jacob (Brandi) Wright, Jessi (Stephen) Bolding, Jessika (Casey) Lester, Jaymee (Cody) Moreton, Jon McGough, Stephen Wright, Chris (Emerald) McGinnis, and Jeremy Polich; his great-grandchildren Makenzie (Jordyn) Prado, Chloe Bird, Gabriella Heredia, Caleb Heredia, Caedence Jones, Emery Jones, Quinn Jones, Samuel Jones, Ridley Wright, Rally Wright, Pax Jones, Jasper Jones Scrivener, Ember Bolding, Mason Bolding, Eric Bolding, Harper Moreton, Harrison Moreton, Cali Daniel, Jaxon Daniel, Rhylon Lester, Bentley Lester, Kinsley Lester, Aiden Wright, and Alec McGinnis; and his brother, Buster E. Wright. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and countless others who were lucky enough to call him their friend and Paw-Paw.

Bobby was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Rotan. Visitation will be held Tuesday, August 4 from 5-6:30pm and his funeral service will be held Wednesday, August 5 at 10:00am. Both visitation and funeral will be at Weathersbee Funeral Home Chapel in Rotan, Tx. Services will be officiated by Russ Ponder.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons: Jeriami St. Clair, Josh Jones, Jacob Wright, Jon McGough, Nick Gonzales, Cody Moreton, Stephen Bolding, and Jordan Prado.
