Walter Charles (Charlie) Cleveland

August 9, 1941 — September 6, 2023

Rotan

Walter Charles Cleveland, affectionately known as Charlie, left this earth to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on September 6, 2023, leaving behind a legacy filled with love and cherished memories. Born on August 9, 1941, in Rotan, Texas, Charlie was the son of Walter Hardin and Docia Leonora (Williamson) Cleveland.

As a husband to Darlene Cleveland for 61 years and a father to two sons, Walter Charles Cleveland II and Wayne Timothy Cleveland, Charlie deeply cherished the bonds of family. His love for his grandkids knew no bounds; they held a special place in his heart. Hannah Parr and her husband Tyler, Claire Cleveland, Caroline Lee and her husband Chase, Walker Cleveland and his wife Katrina, Sarah Whitmire and her husband Clayton, William Cleveland and his wife Kelli were blessed to have shared unforgettable moments with their doting grandfather. Charlie took immense pleasure in witnessing
their growth and was overjoyed at the addition of four great-grandchildren – Patrick, Sammy, Avery, and Harrison – with another little one on the way. Charlie will also be missed by his beloved brother Leonard Cleveland, as well as countless nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.

Charlie's life was marked by his dedication to farming and ranching. He carried on the proud family tradition with passion and skill. The farm he owned was not only his livelihood but also a symbol of generational heritage, belonging before him to his father and grandfather.

Charlie loved others as himself - just as scripture instructs. He dedicated time to meeting the needs of others by way of a listening ear, acts of service, and prayer. During his time on the volunteer fire departments in Paducah and Rotan, Charlie often ran into danger to save people, animals, buildings, farms, and ranches.

Known for his affable nature, warm personality, and wonderful sense of humor, Charlie was truly "one of the good ones. "Those who knew him best would attest to his zest for life. He approached each day with thankfulness for the simple joys given to him by our Heavenly Father. Whether working on the farm, spending time with loved ones, or simply embracing a quiet evening on the porch with Darlene, Charlie lived life the right way - humbly and full of gratitude.

The loss of Charlie will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His passing leaves a void in the lives of his surviving family and friends, but each is rejoicing that he is truly healed and home!

A Celebration of Life service will be held on September 9, 2023. The event will take place at Rotan Methodist Church located at 209 N McKinley Avenue. The service will begin at 10:00 AM.
