Obituary

DOROTHY WHITEHEAD LANDES, passed away June 13, 2026, in Rotan, TX. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 23, 2026, at the First Baptist Church in Rotan. Visitation will be held 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. Monday, June 22, 2026, at Weathersbee-Ray Funeral Home.

Dorothy was born March 31, 1925, in Gatesville, TX, to the late Milton and Maggie (Wright) Whitehead.

Dorothy graduated from Carlton High School. She married Loys Landes on April 8, 1944, in Dublin, TX.

They moved to Rotan in 1962 and opened Landes Furniture. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Rotan where she worked in the nursery, taught children’s Sunday School, sang in the choir and fixed lunch for many preachers who usually enjoyed her Banana Pudding.

Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband, Loys, her parents, Milton and Maggie Whitehead, her daughter-in-law, Mary Lou Landes and one great granddaughter, Amelia Liliana Landes. Three brothers, Rufus, Raymond and Ross Whitehead and five sisters, Juanita Ellison, Geneva Truelove, Voncille Anderson, Margaret Kunkel Cox, and Helen Parks.

Dorothy is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law, Ronald Landes of San Marcos, Larry and Beverly Landes of Rotan, Gary and Kathryn Landes of Corinth; and two daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda and Bill Simmons of Trinity and Betty and Tres Cummins of San Antonio; one sister, Loreta Lee of San Antonio; two brothers-in-law Coy and Annette Landes of Crowley and Lawrence Outlaw of Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Eleven Grandchildren:

Lori and Charles Krackau, Ticia and George Reyes, Traci and Jason Weiler, Lane and Sarah Landes, Bradley Simmons, Leanne and Ronnie Martinez, Ryan and Andrea Landes, Jeff Cummins, Holly Elliott, Nick Landes and Tyler and Brandon Aniol.

Twenty Great-grandchildren:

Kendell King, Kelsey and Jeff Spake, Taryn Landes, Cade and Cole Krackau, Zach and Rachel Reyes, Zane Reyes (and Fiancé Amy), Jackson and Olivia Landes, Parker Landes, Kennedy and Scott Warner, Maddie and Avner Martinez, Claire and Drew Elliott, August Landes, Liam and Lincoln Landes, Gage Cummins, Delta Dorothy-June and Imogen Aniol.

Six Great-great grandchildren:

Aidy and Grey Reyes, Cordlin and Maizey Spake, Bleu Warner and Everly Reyes.
