The family of Evelyn Elzora Hughs Nowlin, age 81, is sad to announce that Evelyn passed from this earth and received her wings on January 12, 2021, after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease. No amount of words or platitudes can do justice to the legacy that she and her late husband, Stanley, left behind, especially in the history of Fisher County.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley, as well as many family members and friends that she is now rejoicing with in Heaven.
She is survived by one son, Mark and wife, Lisa, of Rotan; one daughter, Dana, and husband, Mike, of Snyder; grandchildren, Darci, Danielle, Dusti, Pecos, Tyson; and great grandchildren, Ella Brooke, Hazlie, Brayden, and Tyslie.
The amount of good works and deeds she leaves behind encompasses the many lives she touched and influenced both through her teaching at Rotan High School, as well as an amazingly talented musician for First Baptist Church of Rotan for many years.
Many will remember her kind spirit and thoughtful advice, while others will remember that stern but caring soul who inspired them to reach their full potential, more than they ever dreamed possible. Through her mentorship, many realized that no goal was unattainable with enough drive and dedication. She was one of a kind and will be greatly missed. We will miss you, but we are so happy that you are once again whole and back with the love of your life.
A limited visitation will be held at the First Baptist Church in Rotan on Monday, January 18th from 11:30 AM until 12:45 PM, with a graveside service to follow at Belvieu Cemetery at 1:00 PM with Pastor Werth Mayes. All social distancing and proper protocols will be observed.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the First Baptist Church of Rotan or to the Haley Helms Memorial Scholarship Fund c/o Rotan ISD.
