Georgia Ashton

November 17, 1913 — June 21, 2014

Born November 17, 1913, in Gerty, Oklahoma, Georgia was the daughter of J.E. and Lida Gatewood VanLoon. At the age of 13, the family moved from Ada, Oklahoma, to Rotan, Texas, in a covered wagon. On July 1, 1932, she married Ray Lawrence Ashton in Fisher County, Texas. They were married for 44 years, until his passing in 1976. Georgia was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Rotan, joining the church in 1934. She loved her church, and worked in the nursery for 42 years. At the time of her passing, she was both the oldest and longest standing member of the church. In her spare time, she enjoyed baking, playing SkipBo, golfing, sewing, quilting, cooking, tending to her vegetable garden, and reading. She is remembered as a homemaker, and a very positive person.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Ray Ashton her parents, J.E. and Lida VanLoon her daughter, Betty Ray Ashton her brothers, Ray VanLoon, Odell VanLoon, J.E. VanLoon, and Roy Lee VanLoon her sisters, Edith Gunn and Ermine VanLoon and her grandson, Breck Weathers.
Georgia is survived by her son, Bill Ashton and his wife, Diana, of Abilene her daughters, Mary Lou Patterson of Rotan, and Patsy Brinegar and husband, Doyle, of Conroe six grandchildren nine greatgrandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
