Herbert Jay Moore

Herbert Jay Moore, 91, of Rotan passed away on Sunday, December 8, 2024. Graveside services will be 1:00 PM Tuesday, December 10 at the Riverdale Cemetery directed by Weathersbee-Ray Funeral Home of Rotan. 

Herbert was born October 29, 1933 to Rufus and Delia (Dowell) Moore in Moody, Texas. He was a veteran and served on the NIKE/AJAX Missile Battery in Washington D.C. during the Korean Conflict from 1954-1956. Herbert married Lois Shipp Moore in Roby, Texas on March 1, 1962. Herbert loved life and loved people. He was always telling jokes and making people laugh. He was a working man, know to many as the “Rotan Junk Guy” or the “Watermelon Man”. 

Herbert is preceded in death by his parent; two sisters; and one brother. 

He is survived by his wife of sixty-two years, Lois; son, Toby; two daughter, Penny Allbritton and Vickie Etheredge; six grandchildren; and fourteen great-grandchildren.
