JR TANKERSLEY, 60, passed away Monday, January 2, 2016, at Fisher County Hospital in Rotan. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 5, 2016, at Calvary Baptist Church in Rotan, with burial following at Belvieu Cemetery, directed by Weathersbee-Ray Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 6:00-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 4, 2016, at Weathersbee-Ray Funeral Home.
Born January 16, 1956, in Rotan, JR was the son of Abbie Adella (Reep) and Oscar Syl Tankersley. He graduated from Rotan High School and attended TSTC. On July 22, 2006, he married the love of his life, Veronica Silvas, in Rotan. JR worked as a truck driver for WSI. In his spare time, he enjoyed horses, reading, playing on his tablet, and watching westerns. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Abbie Tankersley; one brother, Jimmy Don Tankersley; one sister, Peggy Kurth; and three brothers-in-law, Roger Greer, Jolly Wasson, and Donald Boyd.
JR is survived by his wife, Veronica Tankersley of Rotan; two children, Jimmy Don (Danielle) Tankersley of Abilene and Chastity (Michael) Maples of Tye; two step-children, Monte Silvas (Tabitha) of Snyder and Kaitlyn Thomas of Rotan; two brothers, Oscar Ray (Betty) Tankersley of Blackwell and Larry (Marlena) Tankersley of Blackwell; six sisters, Cheryl (Luther) Whatley of Louisiana, Tina (Wayne) Smith of Hempstead, Annetta Wasson of Louisiana, Rita Boyd of Louisiana, Pattie (Steve) Smith of Wylie, and Debrah Greer of Hempstead; fourteen grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
