Jose (Joe) M. Barrera

Jose (Joe) M. Barrera Jr.,65, of Roby, Texas passed away Saturday, July 15, 2023. Services will be at 10:00 am on Tuesday, July 18, 2023 at the Weathersbee-Ray Funeral Home Chapel in Rotan with burial to follow in Roby Cemetery.

Joe was born August 19, 1957 in Karnes City, Texas to Jose and Manuela Barrera. When he was 5 years old his parents moved the family to Roby Texas.

Back in the day, Joe enjoyed getting together with his friends and drinking a beer.  In his older years, he liked going to the game rooms, and taking care of his grandson Jr. He loved being in his man cave, “The Cuartito”, where he spent a lot of his time watching TV, working on weed eaters, lawnmowers, or anything he could fix with his hands. He worked as a farmer for fifty years and retired at the age of 60.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jose Maria Barrera and Manuela Barrera; two brothers, John Barrera and Ermando Barrera; and sister, Vicky Amador.

Joe is survived by his wife, Alice Barrera of Roby; son Jose Maria Barrera III of Snyder; son, Ray Barrera and wife Mercedes of Lampasas; stepson, Blake Montemayor and wife Marie of Killeen; son, Christian Joe Barrera of Roby; bonus son, Christian Joe Barrera Jr. of Sweetwater; daughter, Sasha Barrera of Snyder; daughter, Misty Barrera of Chickasha, Oklahoma; daughter, Norma Boakye and husband Randy of Dallas; daughter, Sheila Bert and husband Nick of Snyder; twenty grandchildren; one great granddaughter; and several nephews that considered him a mentor.
