Joseph Clifford Slack Jr., known to his friends and family as Joe, passed away at his home in Rotan, Texas, on September 10, 2023. He was born on February 3, 1956, in Fayetteville, North Carolina, to Joseph C. Slack Sr. and Lula Belle (Hobbs). Joe will forever be remembered for his remarkable career in the United States Air Force.
Throughout his life, Joe embodied a profound love for his country. He proudly served in the US Air Force for an impressive 30 years, leaving an undeniable mark on the military community. Rising through the ranks, he distinguished himself as a Chief Master Sergeant. He became the First Sergeant for the 16th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron—the Air Force Special Operations Command's largest squadron with over 950 personnel.
Joe's journey in the Air Force began on July 28, 1976, when he enlisted as a Security Police Specialist. He retired from active duty on August 1, 2006. With unwavering commitment and utmost professionalism, he dedicated three decades to defending freedom and promoting peace.
Joe found joy in various hobbies and interests outside his military service. He was an avid reader and had a deep appreciation for movies and music. One cherished pastime Joe particularly enjoyed was watching wrestling with his children, sharing laughter and memorable moments with them. He mastered his culinary skills in the kitchen, and his family will fondly remember him for his teriyaki chicken. Joe had a generous heart and always ensured others were provided for; his actions reflected that.
Joe was a devoted husband to Belinda (Fortenberry) Slack, and together, they shared a beautiful journey. His unconditional love extended to his children: son Charles Clifford Slack and wife Melanie; daughters April Slack and Shailyn Justice Kendrick-Dickerson; and grandsons Carlo and Xavier. He loved his fur babies as though they were his best friends.
