Larry Lee Vaught was born in Phoenix, Arizona on November 10, 1940 and passed away on Wednesday, August 17, 2016. His parents were Otis and Cappy Vaught. Larry grew up in Sunny Slope, Arizona with his sister, Sharon, and his brother, Ed. The desert was their playground. Larry's dad was with the Southern Pacific Railroad, so the family lived and travelled the U.S. in an Airstream trailer. In 1952, they settled in Rocklin, California and it would be Larry's "place". The friends he made there became lifelong friends and with those same friends he joined the Marines in 1958 serving 4 years on the Aircraft Carrier USS Kearsarge.
Larry is survived by his wife, Betty Joy (McGinnis), one son, Chance Lee Vaught of Roby, Texas, a granddaughter, Kyndra Lee Vaught of Hobbs, Texas, and Larry's constant companion, Buddy. He also leaves behind his sister and his brother and a multitude of nieces and nephews.
Larry was truly a jack of all trades, but following a dream to fly, he received his pilot's license and in 1978 began a career in crop dusting and aerial photography. His aerial photographs can be seen in homes and businesses throughout the state.
Roby was Larry's home for 38 years. Surrounded by family and friends, he lived and loved, laughed and cried, touched our lives in his special way and will be so missed.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, August 21, 2016 at 3:00 p.m., in the First Baptist Church of Roby. Visitation will be at 2:00 p.m. in the church fellowship hall.
