LEAH MAXINE BURK, 88, passed away Monday, November 16, 2015, at a Sweetwater Nursing Home. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 19, 2015, at the First Baptist Church of Roby, with burial following at Roby Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 18, 2015. Online condolences can be made at www.weathersbeerayfh.com.
Born August 27, 1927, in Fisher County, Maxine was the daughter of R.W. and Beulah (Keith) Ballenger. She graduated from Hobbs High School in the class of 1944, and moved to Abilene, where she attended Draughns Business College. Maxine worked as a secretary in Abilene for many years. On August 27, 1965, she married the love of her life, Erwin M. Burk, in Abilene. In 1972, the couple moved to Roby, where Maxine owned and operated the Roby Flower Shop for eighteen years. In her spare time, Maxine enjoyed handwork: crocheting, sewing, cooking, and decorating cakes. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Roby, where she taught Sunday School and worked in the kitchen during special events. Maxine also served as a 4-H leader for several years.
Maxine is preceded in death by her husband, Erwin M. Burk; and her parents, R.W. and Beulah Ballenger.
She is survived by her daughter, Michelle Burk of Sweetwater; her sister, Lila Guinn; her loving cousin who was raised as a sister, Edith McCain; her brothers-and-sisters-in-law, Louise and Joe Milliorn, Ila Burk, Lila Snell, Velma Thomson, Sam & Donald Wilson, Lathum and Linda Burk, and Thelma Burk; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
