Lois Rains

December 22, 1928 — June 2, 2019

Lois Jane "Janie" Rains passed away Sunday, June 2, 2019, following a brief illness.
Janie was born December 22, 1928, to Gerome and Jewell McSpadden in Hobart, Oklahoma. The family moved to Rotan, Texas in 1935. Janie attended Rotan schools, graduating from Rotan High School in 1946. She was a cheerleader and voted Senior Queen.
Janie was married to Odell Rains for 47 years until his death in 1993. They were faithful members of Cross Roads Baptist Church where Janie taught Sunday School classes and especially enjoyed teaching GA's for many years.
In the community she enjoyed several roles in the Fisher County Historical Society. Her favorite hobby was quilting, and she was able to make a quilt for each of her 15 great grandchildren as well as quilts that she gifted to others.
After she moved to Carrollton in 2016 and was asked what job she had, she proudly replied, "I was a farmer's wife." She received much joy from being Odell's help mate as a "go fer", taking meals to the field, helping in all aspects with the Polled Hereford cattle, and maintaining a peaceful home. In her later years her passion was her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a faithful prayer warrior and always interested in their activities.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Odell, son Donald Mac Rains, and brother-in law Darrell Rushing.
Janie is survived by her sister Ann Rushing of San Angelo, daughter Deborah Bird (Terry) of Carrollton, daughter-in-law Belynda Rains of Roby; grandchildren Eric Bird (Amy), of Carrollton, Philip Bird (Amanda) of Hamilton, Katrina Evans of Idalou, Cory Rains (Lacey) of Roscoe, and Emily Wyatt (Patrick) of Carrollton; 15 great grandchildren, Janie, Jenna and Johnie Bird of Hamilton; Sydney, Owen, Evie, Silas and Josie Bird of Carrollton; David and James Wyatt of Carrollton; Mackenlee and Creed Evans of Idalou; Crayton, Cole and Crosson Rains of Roscoe.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Belvieu Cemetery Association or Cross Roads Baptist Church.
