Lula
McMeans
Sep 29, 1934 — Jul 3, 2026
Lula Marlene Posey McMeans was born September 29, 1934 near the Double Mountains to Fant Leroy Posey and Pearl Etta Counts Posey. Lula closed her eyes and peacefully passed away on July 3, 2026. She was a member of Rotan Church of Christ and continued to grow in her faith through regular bible study. Lula was a proud graduate of Rotan High School. She agreed to a blind date with Billy Wayne McMeans arranged by Shirley Metcalf and Harold McNutt which led to their marriage on August 29, 1953. Lula gave birth to five children in a span of eight and half years and was a loving, caring, nurturing and busy mother. In the late 1960's she completed courses at Jessie Lee's Beauty School and became owner/operator of Lula's Beauty Shop in Jayton. She later worked for Jayton ISD in the high school administration office retiring in the early 1990's when Lula and Billy Wayne moved back to the Double Mountains of Stonewall County. Upon Billy Wayne's passing in 2014, Lula moved to the Heritage House Assisted Living Center near Rotan where she received assistance, love and care as she lived out her remaining years. She loved the Heritage House staff and residents and prior to her passing she expressed her anticipation of returning. Thank you to Administrator Helen Reese for loving and caring for Lula and all residents of HH.
Family was always important to Lula and in recent years, a highlight for her was supporting and attending the annual McMeans Family Reunion and Rotan High School class reunion.
