ROTAN- Modesto G. Yanez, Jr., 79, passed away Thursday, February 19, 2015, in Sweetwater. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, February 23, 2015, at Saint Joseph Catholic Church, with burial following at Belvieu Cemetery, directed by Weathersbee-Ray Funeral Home. A rosary will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 22, 2015, at Weathersbee-Ray Funeral Home.
Born July 24, 1935, in Rotan, Texas, Modesto was the son of Modesto G. and Demetria (Garcia) Yanez. He married Maria Montez on December 3, 1953, in Rotan, Texas. Modesto worked for the Santa Fe Railroad and the Rotan Gin before retiring as the Plant Manager at the Rotan Delinting Plant. In his spare time, he enjoyed baseball, poker, and shooting pool. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Modesto is preceded in death by his wife, Maria Yanez; his parents, Modesto and Demetria Yanez; four brothers, Tomas Yanez, Antonio Yanez, Sam Yanez, and Luther Yanez; and one sister, Alberta Vasquez.
He is survived by three sons, Rudy Yanez and wife, JoAnn, of Rotan, Carlos Yanez and wife, Dora, of Winters, and Adam Yanez and wife, Monica, of Sunnyside, Washington; four daughters, Rita Soliz and husband, Joe, of Brownfield, Stella Felan of Rotan, Hope Soliz and husband, Junior, of Rotan, and Marcy Furr and husband, Ricky, of Rotan; seventeen grandchildren; twenty-seven great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
