Noil Matthies

Noil Melvin (Mel) Matthies, 94, of Rotan, went to meet his Creator and Lord and Savior on Wednesday September 13, 2017 in Lubbock, TX. Graveside services will be held on Monday, September 18, 2017 at 10:30AM in Belvieu Cemetery in Rotan, TX. Weathersbee-Ray Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Melvin was born to A.K. and Alma Matthies on August 17, 1923 at home in Scurry County. He went to the Navy and served our country in World War II. Melvin was a mechanic by trade and a very good one; but loved to fish and enjoy life. He married Marie Eckert on November 4, 1966 and she preceded him in death on September 26, 2003.
Survivors include 1 son, Johnny Lynn Matthies of Rotan; 4 grandchildren, Sandra Benham of Post, Melissa Reynolds of New York State, Tammy Self of Post, and Andrew Matthies of Seymour; 2 sisters, Addie Markham of Rotan and Carol Mooney of Colorado City; and 1 sister-in-law, Shirley (Matthies) Jeffrey of Roby.
Preceded in death by his parents; 1 son, Jimmy Roy Matthies on August 18, 2013; 3 brothers, Carl(1987), Calvin(1933), and John(1981); 2 sisters, Christine Sanderson(2009) and Pauline Matthies (2001).
