ROTAN- PATSY KATE (NEWTON) COX, 79, passed away Sunday, August 2, 2015, in Aspermont, Texas. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 4, 2015, at the First United Methodist Church of Rotan, with burial following at Belvieu Cemetery, directed by Weathersbee-Ray Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 6:00-7:00 p.m. on Monday, August 3, 2015, at Weathersbee-Ray Funeral Home.
Born March 29, 1936, in Rotan, Texas, Pat was the daughter of Lehman E. and Mabel E. (Young) Newton. She graduated from Rotan High School as a member of the class of 1953, and received a bachelors degree Hardin-Simmons University. On November 27, 1955, she married the love of her life, John Bruce Cox, at the First United Methodist Church of Rotan. Pat worked as a teacher in the Rotan Independent School District for thirty-two years. In her spare time, she enjoyed sewing, cooking, and reading. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Rotan, where she played the organ and piano as needed. Above all, Pat loved her family, and being able to spend time with them and care for them.
Pat is preceded in death by her parents, Lehman E. and Mabel E. Newton.
She is survived by her husband of fifty-nine years, Bruce Cox of Rotan; her children, Melanie Cox of San Angelo, John Cox and wife, Adriana, of Sweetwater, and Dale Cox and wife, Martha, of Rotan; her brother, Lehman E. Newton of San Angelo; her grandchildren, Amy Harrison and husband, Jeremy, Stefan Cox, Cameron Cox, Jordan Cox and wife, Opal, and Jacob Cox and wife, Miranda; four great-granddaughters, and one great-grandson.
The family would like to thank the staff of Interim Hospice, Kent County Nursing Home, and Stonewall Memorial Hospital for the gentle, loving care they gave to Patsy during the course of her journey.
