Paul Carrillo Jr., 72, of Rotan, passed away surrounded by his family on Wednesday, May 6, 2026. He was born on August 12, 1953, and was a lifelong resident of Rotan.
Paul married his high school sweetheart, Rosemary (Martinez) Carrillo, and together they shared 53 years of marriage.
He is survived by his sons and their families: Trey Carrillo and wife Rita of Lubbock, and son Gabe; and Stoney Carrillo and wife Nadine of Lubbock, and their children Ryan and Nicco, and their granddaughter Esme. He was proud of his sons and deeply valued his daughter-in-laws who became part of his family.
Paul was preceded in death by his most prized possession, his granddaughter Stonie Gabrielle Carrillo. One of his favorite pastimes was watching his “Shorty” play softball or simply throwing the ball with her at home.
He was also preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Benita Carrillo; his brother, Joe Carrillo; and his sister, Mary DeLeon.
He is also survived by six sisters, four brothers, and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Paul worked at National Gypsum for more than 20 years. He enjoyed washing cars and doing yard work for family and friends. He was known for always being willing to help others without expecting anything in return.
He enjoyed spending time at local ballfields watching his family and friends play ball. He also spent many years coaching youth baseball in Little League, Farm League, Junior League, and Senior League, where he impacted many young players.
Paul was a lifelong member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, where he was a member for 72 years. He never met a stranger and was known for his conversations, kindness, and steady presence. His wife said he could “talk to a fence post”.
Paul will be remembered for his love for his family, being a loyal friend, and the many lives he impacted throughout his lifetime.
