Rhea Sue McCown Austin, age 75, of Roby, Texas, passed away on Thursday, September 8, 2016 in Lubbock, TX. She was born August 21, 1941 in Wingate, Texas to the late W.B. McCown and Reba Richards McCown.
Sue attended Andrews High School followed by cosmetology school. After several years, she changed careers by attending nursing school in Tucson, Arizona. She became a Licensed Vocational Nurse which became her lifelong career. Throughout her years as a nurse she worked in hospitals, did private-duty nursing, and retired after 20 years of service for Cogdell Hospital at the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.
Sue loved American and European history. Her love of European history grew when she lived in England. During this time she explored many countries in Europe where she began her hobby of collecting antiques. She loved to travel and had many opportunities to travel within the US and abroad.
Sue was known by her family and friends for her priceless sense of humor. She had a gift for making people laugh. She was voted "Wittiest" by her high school classmates and she had a way of making almost any situation fun.
Sue is survived by her son, Archie Dale Holman, Jr.; her daughter, Michele Terry and husband Danny; 3 grandchildren, Bryant, Tresley, and Landon; and 2 great-grandchildren, Caitlin and Harlow. Also surviving Sue are her good friends that she considered family: Irene Canales, Pat Duke and Velma Ward.
She was preceded in death by her parents, W.B. and Reba; her brothers, Weldon McCown and Jerry McCown; and her sister Cozette Rutherford.
