Born August 3, 1932, in Roby, Texas, Richard was the son of the late L.L. and Londa Stuart. He graduated from Roby High School in 1950, and in 1951, he married his high school sweetheart, Patsy Sumerlin. Richard loved Patsy, and thought that she was the best cook. He then began a life of farming and raising cattle. After his son, Gary, graduated from college, they became partners in farming and formed the corporation, R & G Farms. Richard thought that Gary was one of the best farmers in Fisher County. He was a lifelong resident of Fisher County, and a longtime member of Roby First Baptist Church.
Richard loved horses, and especially watching his daughter, Tammy, and his granddaughter, Tara, participate in rodeos and barrel racing events. He was proud of their many accomplishments, especially when Tammy won the "North American Barrel Racing Championship" in 1990, and Tara won the "Josey Jr. World" in 1998.
He was very close to his brother, Scooter, and every summer, Richard would look forward to Scooter bringing him tomatoes and vegetables from his garden.
In his later years, and in declining health, the thing he looked forward to every day was his son Gary picking him up and driving around to check on the cows and cotton.
He is preceded in death by his daughter, Christy Hudnall in 1994.
Richard is survived by his wife of 64 years, Patsy Stuart; his son, Gary Stuart and wife, Cynthia, of Roby; his daughter, Tammy Mulanax and husband, Stan, of Sweetwater; his brother, Jerry "Scooter" Stuart and wife, Linda, of Roby; his sister, Londa Bea Branson and husband, John, of Roby; his grandchildren, Jordan Stuart of Burnet, Guy Stuart of Burnet, Angela Stuart of Sweetwater, and Tara Mulanax of Midland; and his great-grandchildren, Justin Gardner and Kolby Evans.
