Rodney Clyde Denton, Sr. was born May 1, 1932, in Rotan, Texas to Sam and Ruth Denton. He passed away on December 4, 2020 in Georgetown, Texas. He was 88 years old.
Rodney graduated from Rotan High School in 1948 and from Texas Tech University in 1953. After college, Rodney enlisted in the Army as a pilot and was awarded the Bronze Star on August 24, 1962. He retired from the Army with a rank of Major in 1975. He was married to Emma Ona Fairey on October 25, 1961 in Abilene. Rodney and Emma returned to Rotan after leaving the military where they ran several businesses until they retired. Rodney loved to work crossword puzzles and walk all over Rotan, usually picking up golf balls along the way. He loved visiting with people and had a unique sense of humor. You always knew where you stood with him as he was honest probably to a fault. The world is a lonelier place without him today.
Rodney is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Emma, and his son, Rodney Denton, Jr.
He is survived by his daughter, Laura Hester, and her husband Ron of Georgetown, Texas; and three grandchildren, Caleb Hester of Georgetown, Sam Denton and Ryleigh Denton of Rotan, and daughter-in-law Tracie Denton of Rotan.
