Sherman Daniel

SHERMAN PRESTON DANIEL went to be with the Lord on May 14, 2016, at the age of 83 years, 11 months. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 18, 2016, at the Weathersbee-Ray Funeral Home Chapel, with burial following at the Roby Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6:00-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 17, 2016, at Weathersbee-Ray Funeral Home.

Sherman was born July 8, 1932, to Hubert and Elsie Long Daniel of Roby. He married Shirley Dossey of Stamford on August 5, 1965. They made their home in Rotan for the last 50 years.

Sherman entered the Army on December 12, 1952, and completed basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. He sailed from San Francisco, California in June 1953 and arrived in Japan in July. Sherman was sent to Korea one week after arriving in Japan. He spent two years in Korea and received the Korean Service Award with one star and a U.N. Service Medal. Sherman was discharged November 3, 1954, at Fort Bliss, Texas, with a rank of Combat Engineer E2. Sherman was employed at the John Deere dealership in Rotan and retired after 39 years of service. Sherman loved hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family and friends.

Sherman is survived by his wife, Shirley, of Rotan; 3 daughters, Cherita & Brian Welch of China Spring, Mary & Randy Denson of Stamford, Chtressa & Ed Trayhan of Morin; 1 son, Rocky Daniel of Menard; 3 grandsons, Kelley & Dina Burnett of Dallas, Gerald Burnett & Kasey Harris of Abilene, and Jared Welch of China Spring; 1 step-granddaughter, Sabrina & Eddy McIlwain of Hamlin; 1 great-grandson, Ethan Burnett of Dallas; 2 step-great-grandchildren, Cedar & Cequin McIlwain of Hamlin; 2 sisters; and 1 brother. Sherman was preceded in death by his parents, 5 brothers, and 3 sisters.

Pallbearers will be Kelley Burnett, Gerald Burnett, Jared Welch, Marlin Daniel, Steve Neves,,Kris Neves, Ricky Mortan and David Daniel. Honorary Pallbearers are Harold Roberts, Herbert Moore, Jack Morton, James Mann, and Jerry Marshall.
