Velma Thomson, 82, of Roby, Texas passed away April 8, 2023. Graveside Services will be 11:00 AM Thursday, April 13, 2023 in the Roby Cemetery, directed by Weathersbee-Ray Funeral Home of Rotan.

Velma Jennettie (Burk) Thomson was born November 11, 1940 in Roby, Texas to the late J. Melton Burk and Jennie (Mitchell) Burk. She graduated from Roby High School. On February 14, 1962 she married the love of her life, Melvin Thomson in Abilene, Texas.  Velma’s greatest joy in life was her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Velma ran a daycare for many years and everyone knew her as “Memaw”.

Velma was preceded in death by her parents, J. Milton and Jennie Burk; her husband, Melvin Thomson; three brothers; Erwin Burk, Frank Burk, and Delmar Burk; and one sister, Norene Kersh.

She is survived by her two sons, Scott and Pat Thomson, and Darry and Teresa Thomson; one step-daughter, Sheree Mathieson; seven grandchildren, Chris Thomson, Ryan and Tabitha Thomson, Alexis and Jacob Keyon, Lindsey and Kyle Ponder, Sadie and Rees Taylor, C.J. Freeman and Heath Mathieson; ten great grandchildren, Ian, Daily, Tucker, Teagan, Cash, Charli, Bennett and Claire; four sisters, Louise Milliorn­­­, Ila Burk, Lila Snell, and Sam Wilson; one brother, Lathum and Linda Burk; and a host of other family and friends that will miss her dearly.
