Willie Mae Gregg, 82, passed away Monday, July 7, 2025, at Fisher County Hospital in Rotan, Tx. Celebration of life services will be at 10:00 a.m., Thursday July 10, 2025, at the First Baptist Church in Roby, Tx, burial will follow at the Roby Cemetery. Arrangements are under the personal care of Weathersbee-Ray Funeral Home.
Willie Mae was born in Quitaque, TX, on November 20, 1942, to Willie and Dollie Woods. She was one of seven girls born of this union that were affectionately known as the Woods girls. These ladies grew up on a farm, were organic before organic was cool and shared bonds that were strong and everlasting.
She married J Ronald Taylor in 1964, they lived near Quitaque, and she lived a ranching lifestyle until his passing in 1971. She married Gail Gregg in 1974, and she lived the life of a coach’s wife, enjoying stops in Menard, Afton, Matador, Sudan, Floydada and Roby. They remained married until his passing in 1991.
Willie Mae was a woman of strong faith and a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church. She dedicated over 50 years of her life to caring for others as a Licensed Vocational Nurse, serving the communities where she lived over the years.
More than anything, she loved her family. She proudly raised three sons and found immense joy in her role as a mother and grandmother. In 2006 she officially took the role of Mae Mae when she had two granddaughters born 77 days apart. In 2008 she was blessed with her grandson. She was incredibly proud of these three and loved them dearly.
Willie Mae enjoyed hobbies of cross stitching, word search puzzles and shelling pecans by hand. She was ahead of her time enjoying reality TV shows such as The Bachelor, The Bachelorette and Dancing with the Stars.
Willie Mae was preceded in death by her parents Willie and Dollie Woods, J Ronald Taylor, Gail Gregg, her son Randy Gregg and three sisters Ada Lavell Woods, Melba Jo Merrell and Janelle Smith.
Willie Mae is survived by her sons, Jeff Taylor of Floydada, TX, John Taylor and wife Rhea of Huffman, TX, her daughter-in-law Niki Gregg of Montgomery, TX. Her grandchildren Tess Taylor, Emma Gregg and Jett Taylor. Her sisters Clara Ruth Davidson of Quitaque, TX, Mary Joyce Baca and husband Butch of Burkburnett, TX, and Nez Starkey of Slaton, TX.
Willie Mae leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and a life well lived, rooted in service, faith and family. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew her.
The family would like to thank Fisher County Hospital and all its employees for the love, care and compassion shown to her in her final days.
