Zelma Ruth Arthur, a beloved and devoted Christian woman, passed away peacefully on April 19, 2026, in Jayton, Texas. Born on April 3, 1929, in Lubbock, Texas, Zelma lived a life marked by love, faith, and deep commitment to her family and community.
A proud high school graduate, Zelma dedicated much of her life to being a loving homemaker and later contributed her caring spirit through home health care in Rotan. Her warmth and kindness touched many, reflecting her steadfast Christian values.
Zelma’s hobbies and interests were as varied as they were heartfelt. She found joy in crocheting and cooking, with a particular passion for baking that delighted her family and friends. A sports fan, she loved following games, but above all, she treasured the moments spent helping her grandchildren grow and flourish. These activities showcased not only her nurturing spirit but also her joyful engagement with life.
On October 19, 1946, Zelma married her husband, Wilford "Sonny" Arthur, in Plains, a union that remained a proud and cherished accomplishment throughout her life. Together, they built a family foundation grounded in love and mutual support. Zelma was preceded in death by her husband, “Sonny”, as well as her parents, Henry Oscar and Georgia Athie Mae (Phillips) Parker, and all of her siblings.
She is survived by her devoted son, Charles Arthur; her daughter, Carla Chisum, and husband Ray; her grandchildren Clinton Chisum, Bailey Chisum and wife Mary Kate, Shanna Emfinger and husband Ranson; and her great-grandchildren Ivy, Kent, and Jon Chisum, Paisley Windham, Piper, and Brazos Emfinger. Zelma’s family remains a testament to her legacy of love and faith.
Visitation will be held on April 23, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Jayton Church of Christ in Jayton, Texas, followed immediately by the funeral service at 2:00 PM at the same location followed by graveside at the Jayton Cemetery. Friends and family are welcome to gather and celebrate Zelma’s remarkable life.
Zelma Ruth Arthur’s enduring spirit and loving nature will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who knew her. Her unwavering faith, dedication to family, and countless acts of kindness have left an indelible mark on the hearts of many. May her legacy continue to inspire those who were fortunate to know her.
