Billie Coffman

Billie Louise Waddell Coffman was born December 10, 1932, in her current house in Rotan, Texas, to Willie Albert and Hazel Rae (Templer) Waddell.  She went to be with her savior on April 28 2021, in Sweetwater, Texas.

She is survived by her brother Jimmy Waddell and his wife Helen from Bowie, TX, her sister in law Betty Joyce Waddell of Lubbock, daughters Peggy Williamson and Lynn Coffman, and her son CleDon Coffman, 2 granddaughters; Carrie Garrett and Kathleen Williamson, 2 grandsons; Rocky Pelfrey and Adam Coffman, and 4 great grandchildren; Trevor, Colton, and Emily Pelfrey as well as the newest arrival, Amelia Coffman and a host of friends and loved ones. She was known by many names and titles:  Mom, Sis, Grandma, Ditter, Hun, wife, Aunt Billie, and Billie Louise.

She was preceded in death by her husband W J “Tunor” Coffman, brother Doyce, and parents Willie and Hazel.

She attended Dowell school, Roby school, and graduated high school in Lazbuddie, TX.  Billie lived on her family’s land for the last 6 decades of her life, land that she was proud to say, has been in her family for over a century.  Billie resided in Fisher county for all but 7 years of her life.  She met  W J, the love of her life, at the Lazbuddie Church of Christ while she was a senior in high school.  They were promptly married January 4th , 1950, before her graduation.  W J and Billie spent their first 2 years of marriage living in a dugout while he farmed his In-laws’ land.

She enjoyed being a housewife and always had a heart for hospitality.  She couldn’t sit still at the dinner table without asking if you needed a refill.  Billie loved her church, serving however she could by teaching Bible classes, serving meals, or providing food for funeral meals.  When she could no longer drive, Billie was often found dressed up and waiting for somebody to come take her to church, no matter what day of the week it was.

Billie was an artist.  She was a member of Rotan Community Art club and took several painting classes at Snyder Community College.  She only displayed a few paintings in her home, but her family treasures Billie’s paintings.  Her favorite paintings were landscapes of the Double Mountains and arroyos.  She volunteered at the library and was on the library board, as well as volunteering at the Clothes Closet and served in local elections.  She also had a strong respect and interest in history and was a member of the Fisher County Historical Society.

She spent her life serving; her family, the community, and the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Annual Church of Christ Thanksgiving meal, Fisher County Library or Fisher County Historical Society.
