Charles Raymond Meek, 83, passed away Thursday, January 14, 2021 at his home in Sylvester, Texas. A private family service will be held Sunday, January 17, 2021, with burial to follow at the Sylvester Cemetery. Due to COVID the service will be for family only. We will attempt to live-stream the service for those who can’t attend.

Charles was born on November 3, 1937 in Longworth, Texas. He was the son of Franklin Earl and Letha Mae Meek. Charles grew up on the family farm in Sylvester. He graduated from Roby High School in 1956. After graduation he left home and moved to Lake Jackson, Texas where he went to work for Dow. While there he met the love of his life Norma Atkinson. They were married on April 20, 1965 and made their home in Freeport, Texas.  In 1972 they moved back to Sylvester. Charlie went to work at the Cement Plant in Maryneal and also took over the family farm. After he quit working at the Cement Plant he ran for County Commissioner and served in that capacity for Precinct 1 for12 years. He retired in 2000. He and Norma lived happily together for 55 years. Charles was a member of the First Baptist Church of Roby. He was a deacon at the Sylvester Baptist Church and at the First Baptist Church of Roby.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Ova Ray Meek and 3 sisters, Jewel (Judy) Justiss, Belva Mahaffey and Helen Pickens. He is survived by his wife Norma, sons Mike Meek and wife Stacey of San Angelo, Greg Meek and wife Autumn of Sylvester, Bo Walker and wife Joanie of Yoakum and daughter Kelly Tinsley and husband Bill of Abilene; nine grandchildren, Lauren Sorrells and husband Darrell, Sarah Redding and husband Stuart, Cody Meek and wife Megan, Josh Meek, Nicole Meek and fiancé Lucas Garcia, Chiseum Dent and wife Katie, Christopher Dent, Kelly Lowery and wife Kimmie, Shelly Brown and husband Alton; eleven great-grandchildren, Layla, Cutter, Finn, Mia, Cadence, Carson, Kyndal, Kolten, Jarrod, Karly and soon to be born Emma. He is also survived by brother-in-law Jimmy Mahaffey as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to West Texas Rehab Center Hospice of The Big Country.
