Hunter Stephens

Hunter Stephens, of Roby, entered Heaven on Thursday, May 25, 2023. A memorial service will be held 11:00 am, Wednesday, May 31 at the Jay Cee Building in Sweetwater, Texas. Services directed by Weathersbee-Ray Funeral Home of Rotan.

Hunter was born an old soul. Even as infant, his favorite song was “Hi-Way Men”. When the movie “Walk the Line” came out, he watched it enough to have every line memorized in no time. He was hard working and wanted to earn his belongings instead of asking someone for the money. He loved working on his pickups, he was good at trouble shooting and helped others with their problems. He was proud of his pickups and talked about them with everyone, even if they had no clue what he was talking about. His goal was to be a diesel mechanic and open his own shop. He loved fishing, hunting, farming with Hunter Stuart, and driving around with his friends. When Hunter wasn’t at home, he was with his second family, the Claxton’s of McCaulley. He loved being in FFA. He was always excited about participating in Jay Cee events where he got the nickname Little Blake or mini me, loved the Rattle Snake Roundup, Rooster Rally’s, Fund Raisers, and Highway cleanup. Hunter was known for his compassion for others, huge heart, sense of humor, ability to talk to anyone, and never meeting a stranger. Hunter was a member of the Church of Christ in Roby. He started going with Hunter Stuart and was then baptized.

Hunter’s family included parents, Blake and Jennifer Stephens; sister, Brook Stephens and Michael Ahne; grandparents, David and Judy Stephens, Billy and Sandra Bishop, and Vicki and the late George Wheeler; his aunts and uncles, Leslie Stephens, Andrew and Megan Wheeler, Laura and Shawn Hancock, John and Elena Smith, Kristi Huxford, Chad and Amber Smith, Willie Hernandez, Mace and Amanda Royston, Fayenell Royston, Beau Bishop, and Bly and Jodi Bishop; numerous cousins, great aunts and uncles, and many friends. His extended family included Kevin and Takara Claxton, Memaw and Papaw (James and Kathy) Claxton, David Adkisson, and his family. He always talked about his closest friends, David, Kathryn, Lexi, Elijah, Jane, Logan, John, and Gabe.

Hunter was preceded in death by his grandfather, George Wheeler; great grandparents, Ardis and Bessie Stephens, C.L. and Viola Simmons, Doris and DeVern Wheeler, George and Anna Sarrett, Argie Graves and Jerry Mills.
