Jerry "Scooter" Stuart

Jerry Laroy “Scooter” Stuart of Roby, passed away on Sunday, April 3, 2022. Funeral services will be 2:00 pm on Wednesday, April 6, 2022, at the First Baptist Church of Roby but burial to follow in Roby Cemetery. There will be a family visitation before the service beginning at 1:00 pm. Services will be directed by Weathersbee-Ray Funeral Home of Rotan, Texas.

Jerry was born May 19, 1935 in Roby, Texas, the son of the late L.L. and Londa Stuart. He was a lifelong resident of Roby. Jerry graduated from Roby High School in 1955 and Texas Tech University in 1962. He married Linda Singley in 1968. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Roby.

Jerry was a farmer and rancher and loved the land, cows, and horses. He had several really good horses and loved riding as long as he was able. He was honored to receive the 100-year Family Land Heritage Designation for the Jerry Stuart Family Farm founded in 1917. That is what he called the River Place, and his aunt Emma Lea did all the work to get the award. Jerry considered it to belong to all the Stuart family.

He enjoyed going to the coffee shop early every morning to drink coffee with his buddies. Jerry loved them all and really missed getting to see them since he had been ill this past year.

Jerry loved to fish and loved gardening. He raised fields of watermelon, cantaloupe, and tomatoes. He also had orchards of peaches, apricots, plums, and persimmons that he enjoyed giving to people. He told Salvador a few days ago that he wanted him to plant fifty tomato plants.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Richard Stuart; and sister, Londa Bea Branson.

Scooter is survived by his wife, Linda; two sons, Kevin Stuart, and Jerry Wayne and wife, Sonya Stuart; two grandsons; Justin Stuart and friend, Chad Love, and Payton Stuart and fiancé, Brenna Bell; and one aunt, Emma Lea Collier Gilmore.
