John Morgan

May 4, 1962 — May 6, 2022

Rotan

On the 6th of May 2022, John William Morgan, 60, with both his hands held by loved ones, received a heavenly embrace as he was welcomed home by his heavenly Father. Funeral service will be 10:00 am, Thursday, May 12, 2022 at the First Baptist Church of Rotan with burial to follow in Belvieu Cemetery, directed by Weathersbee-Ray Funeral Home. There will a visitation on Wednesday, May 11 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the funeral home.

John William Morgan was born on May 4, 1962 in Miami, Oklahoma to Jake and Alberta Morgan. Although John was burdened by health issues, he enjoyed riding motorcycles and fishing with his three brothers, Russell, Mark, and Mike, and sister, Julie. He moved to Texas in 1981 and met and married Nelda Manies. They were miraculously able to have two children, Heather, and John Randall. He often boasted about his proudest accomplishments, his children, and grandchildren. John was not defined by his illnesses, instead he rose above them through the biggest gift of all. He received a lifesaving kidney donated from his beautiful sister Julie on March 25th, 1998, three days before her own birthday. John was a devout Christian, often attending services at Beltway Baptist Church in Abilene, Texas.

He wore many hats for the small town of Rotan, TX. This included owning and operating John's Bait Shop, working at Lee's Service Station, and working with the wrecker service under the handle WR2. He was a member of the Rotan Volunteer Fire Department and retired as captain after twenty years of faithful service. He also worked for the city of Rotan as the animal control officer for many years, earning his title "the snake man" as he loved to hunt rattlesnakes. He also owned and operated a burr hauling business that will remain in the Morgan family for years to come.

A beloved father, grandfather, brother, son, uncle, and friend, he lived life to serve others. His sacrificial love, overwhelming generosity, and abundant joyfulness was known by everyone he encountered. He will forever live on in the hearts of his friends and family through acts of kindness and service to others.

He was preceded in death grandmother, Pearl Marie Reeder, and great grandmother Delphia Dill.

John is survived by his children, Heather Morgan Flugel and John Randall Morgan and his wife Christy; four grandchildren, Kaylee Capree Flugel, Jaelynn Sierre Morgan, Ava Christelle Morgan, and Harleigh Cheyanne Morgan: his parents, Jake and Alberta Morgan; three brothers, Russell Morgan and wife Terrie, Mark Morgan, Mike Morgan and wife Sarah; one sister, Julie Matthews and husband Jerry; his loving companion, Alicia Gayle Rauch and her children, Shelby Makenna Briggs, Daisie Michelle Briggs, Karly Anne Briggs and grandson Kase Tye Brouillette;  and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.
