Joyce Marie Van Loon (Lake), age 92, peacefully left this earth and made her journey home to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on November 10th, 2020. A funeral service is scheduled for 1:00 PM on Monday, November 16th at the Rotan Church of Christ. A burial will follow at Belvieu Cemetery in Rotan.
Marie was born to the late John Bennett (J.B.) and Willie Lake in Fisher County, Texas, on November 19th, 1927. Marie accepted Christ as her Savior at an early age and joined the Rotan Church of Christ at age seventeen. Her faith would be a part of every aspect of her life. She remained active in the Church of Christ for the next 74 years. Marie was happy in Rotan and loved its people greatly, only leaving in 2018 to be closer to her family in Dallas; her home church was always near her heart.
Marie married J.E. Van Loon on January 16th, 1945. They were blessed with three beloved children, Howard, Larry, and Carolyn. She adored her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, making each one feel uniquely loved. While serving as our matriarch, Marie was also involved with her community of Rotan, Texas. Most notably, Marie served as Justice of the Peace for Fisher County from 1987-2002.
Left to treasure her memory is her son and daughter-in-law Larry and Holly Van Loon of Heath, Texas; daughters-in-law Ann Van Loon of Rowlett, Texas and Pam Van Loon of Rowlett, Texas; grandchildren Shane, Kimberly, Misty, Casey, Jessica, Dustin, Kris, and Jessie; numerous great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents, Marie has joined her siblings Evelyn and Vernon; husband J.E.; children Howard and Carolyn; and grandchildren Christie and Jason in their Heavenly Home. We know the angels were singing when she heard those beautiful words, "Well done, good and faithful servant!"
