Virgil Ramby Weems age 93 passed away April 30, 2023 at his home in Rotan. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM on Friday, May 5, 2023 at the First Baptist Church of Rotan with burial to be on a later date in the Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Abilene. There will be a visitation prior to the service beginning at 9:30 at the church. Services are under the direction of Weathersbee-Ray Funeral Home.
Virgil was born April 18,1930 to Lonnie Roscoe and Virginia Bright Ramby Weems. Virgil married Annie Mae Parker Morrow on September 14,1951 at her family home. He joined the military and served in Japan, where he drove a tank for the 21st Infantry Regiment. He was a lifelong farmer, farming the Ramby Weems farm established in 1890. Virgil worked at the Rotan Gin Company for many years. He and Annie served as substitute house parents for Harmony Family Services Formally the Abilene Girls Home, where he was honored for saving the life of one of the girls who was choaking. He was an avid fan of the Rotan Yellowhammers athletic program, never missing a football game until his health would no longer allow him to attend.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Annie; his parents, Lon, and Virgie Weems; three brothers, Clayton Weems (Big Boxie); L.D. Weems, and Bernard Weems (Little Boxie); one sister Oma Lois Lee, one Bonus sister Delona; and one daughter- in-law, Rhonda Weems.
Virgil is survived by one son Ruple Weems; three daughters, Catherine Weatherman (Lawrence), Annette Leach (Earl), and Carolyn Hargrove (Jim); eleven grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren; one sister, Lillie Rollins; and longtime friend and school mate Harold Roberts.
